Laura's Stance on Local Issues
Advocating for the physical and mental health of citizens in the county
Access to medical and mental healthcare is a vital basic need that isn't currently being met in our county. This has impacted our rising STI rate, an expanding jail population and the over-all well being of our county's citizens. We need to prioritize the health of our citizens and have some tough conversations about how to meet their needs with an ever-dwindling state budget.
Ensuring safe and respectful working conditions for our employees
County and private sector employees are being directly impacted by a variety of issues. Caseworkers, health providers, law enforcement and so many others are overwhelmed day in and day out due to under-staffing, impossible caseloads and more specifically, a large county jail population. By addressing issues such as healthcare, crime and under-staffing at the county level, we create a better workplace for local employees and ensure that our citizens receive the care and services they deserve. Our workers deserve a proactive verses reactive approach to safe and respectful work conditions.
Growing and revitalizing our community
When a community is happy and healthy in both their personal and professional lives, a community flourishes. However, there are always more ways to increase the quality of life in any community. Low-cost, family friendly activities in our community are a great investment and make our county more attractive to potential new-comers.
